Plainfield is a historic staple of Hendricks County. The town history is impressive. Settled by the Quakers in the early 1820s the town was incorporated in 1839 and again in 1904 after losing it’s incorporation. The town was named after the Friends being “plain” people, and the Quakers are still represented in the high school mascot.
Plainfield has a cute, historic, downtown that is being revitalized with the recently moved Oasis diner and opening of new stores. US 40 runs through the town as main street. The town also has a recently redesigned mall, The Shop s At Perry Crossing, and any type of restaurant you could want for dinner.
If you’re looking for an outdoor activity Plainfield is the spot to be! There is a beautiful system of trails that winds through the town. It’s perfect for a quick run or spending the day walking the dog. There are several parks in Plainfield with playgrounds, green spaces, tennis courts, soccer fields, one even has a skate park! During the summer Splash Island and Aquatic Center draw people from all over the city to cool off on the water slides and pools.
Even with all of its history Plainfield definitely does not feel old!
